Week 3 Part 2

After taking monologues we had created to introduce our characters, into class today and reading them to each other; The idea came about that I could possibly perform my piece in Spanish, and speak to the (non spanish speaking) audience through emotion; through body language, changes in voice, etc. Upon thinking about this I am now reconsidering my piece.

I am now thinking that I very much want to focus on the story of Catalina Lercaro; however with a time limit of 10 minutes, it would be incredibly difficult to show the audience everything that I would like to include. I am now thinking that I might narrow my performance down to Catalina’s story and then just Canarian day; I still would like to tell the audience about Canarian day and some of the culture of the island however, it may now be done through a different format.

At this moment, I may introduce myself as Catalina and tell my story and then decide to tell the audience about Canarian day as a way of “brightening up” the “conversation” I am having with the audience. In telling them about Canarian day, I will then ask them to take part, I will offer them some traditional Canarian food, and perform some traditional dances and songs. I am hoping to be wearing a traditional Canarian outfit if it can be brought over from Tenerife on time. The theme of my performance will be Canarian day and educating the audience but using Catalina as a medium I can also tell her story to start of the performance.
