Su corazon se quedo en Canarias

This is a statue that stands in Garachico, Tenerife to represent the Canarian’s that left for South America in search of a better life. His bags are behind him to represent leaving but there is a hole in his chest to represent that those that left, left their hearts in the Canaries.

I believe this statue represents most people that leave the Canaries, no matter the reason you leave, your heart stays. Just like mine.

De Canarias para el mundo

We were born, in a beautiful land,

Proud of this one day we departed,

To fight, to achieve the dream,

Destiny took us to Puerto Rico.

And two cultures joined together, though far apart did they seem,

Who would have thought that one day this would change our lives.

With love and a lot of sacrifice,

We took music and example to our children.

Our Home that we love so much,

From here to the world with pride we’re going.

From the Canaries to the world,

Ayy from the Canaries to the world.

From the Canaries to the world,

If you fight the world is yours.

From the Canaries to the world,

Sing my beautiful people, the world will sing.

From the Canaries to the world,

Puerto Rico and Colombia I can’t hear you,

From the Canaries to the world,

My people from Añaza I love you so much,

From the Canaraies to the world,

That is my pride, that is my pride,

From the Canaries to the world,

Ayy from the Canaries to the world.

From the Canaries to the world.

Today, I thank my people,

And our fans that support us blindly.

We’re from the neighbourhood,

with lots of pride,

With hope everything is possible in this world.

I humbly represent the land that we love,

No matter where we are singing we take the flag in our hands,

With love and a lot of sacrifice,

We took music and example to our children.

Our Home that we love so much,

From here to the world with pride we’re going.

From the Canaries to the world,

From Mexico to Spain singing to the world,

From the Canaries to the World,

Life is short and I am enjoying it,

From the Canaries to the World,

I represent my flag with pride.

From the Canaries to the World,

From the Canaries to the World,

From the Canaries to the World,

Singing to all of my people,

From the Canaries to the World,

Search for your dream and create your future.

From the Canaries to the World,

Ayy from the Canaries to the World,

From the Canaries to the World. . .

Popular Culture

Salsa Dancing at the local fiesta

Though my performance is based around Canarian day and the historical culture of the Islands, it is also important to bare in mind the islands cultures today. These islands always have something going on, one popular event is when the fiestas come to town; not only do we have fair rides, we have orchestras and performances by locals and guest artists or DJ’s, we have outdoor discos and ‘Fiesta Queen’ pageants. And though it may seem strange to someone coming from elsewhere it is completely normal for everyone to Salsa Dance at these events (Whether they do it well or not), young and old come out to dance, and often it is a Salsa or a Bachata or Merengue… These styles of dancing are very popular on the islands and though most people have not had training, everyone gives it a go.
